Bez Ocko is a designer, photographer and an Associate Professor at Hofstra University where she teaches design and visual communications. Previously she taught at Moore College of Art and Philadelphia University. She has given presentations on typography at the College Art Association's annual conference and at the Friends of St Bride Library Conference in the UK. Her essay 'On the Rand Book' was published in Paul Rand: Modernist Designer published by the Center for Art and Visual Culture, UMBC. She was the director of the Rosenberg Gallery at Hofstra University from 2006 to 2009. She also curated the exhibition The Swiss Poster: Art of Ten Masters for the Hofstra University Museum and wrote the essays for the exhibition catalog. She has been active in the Philadelphia AIGA chapter and was an organizer of the Dialogues on Design lecture series for many years.
Bez received the MFA from Yale University and the BA from Oberlin College. After Oberlin she moved to New York City where she formed Bias/Buy Us with Claudia McNulty, and later, Brand O. As a so-called 'new wave' fashion designer, her clothing was marketed internationally and received press coverage in the Soho News, the Boston Phoenix, the New York Daily News and various fashion publications. Later she worked in editorial design at New York and Star Hits magazines and as a graphic designer with (Jo) Bonney + Co. She also studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, RISD Summer Institute for Graphic Design Studies and Parsons in New York.
